Current Advertising Decision
I have been doing a lot of thinking on where my advertising money is best spent and have finally come to a conclusion. Rather than spending money on google ads, radio commercials, or even random advertising on websites like fiverr.com I have come to the realization giving free samples to potential customers and free bottles to any potential wholesalers is my best option. This reasoning comes from recent feedback, I have been getting great reviews and giving out free samples has been my most successful tactic after the products have been tried it usually in turn creates a customer. The potential investment in this type of strategy is no more expensive then any other advertisement vessel I may have opted for in the past and with this I can use the "proof is in the pudding" strategy and just let people experience the products for themselves rather than talking about the products until i'm blue in the face. I will also be running a promotion soon, anyone willing to give a short video review of Simply Focus or SuperHero Fuel will get a bottle free, I think reviews are nice but more and more are fake on many websites these days, I believe this tactic will show potential customers who are on the fence real reviews from real people without any question of legitimacy.
Idea Of The Day
I'm a nerd and consider that word a term of endearment, I have been reading recently how many pro gamers have been getting drug tested for concentration drugs such as adoral. My idea is to reach out to these gamers allow them to try a bottle of Simply Focus free and hopefully start an epidemic in that demographic. I think it will do extremely well and is all natural so there will be no worries of getting busted for foul play for using illegal stimulants.
Its been a busy day but I'm excited I get to go to bed content and wake up excited, and that is all I will ever ask for in life.

Signs of progress!!!-- Entrepreneur Success Status
It has been a bit over 6 months since I have started this adventure, I have tried quite a few tactics for sales and marketing and have learned a lot. Actually I know I am still learning daily and still figuring it all out, which I know will be a life long lesson. I have recently read a few books I believe will help me substantially in marketing and sales in the future. the books were The Power of Habit and The Tipping Point, both of these books have caused me to take a step back and methodically think about the choices being made in marketing and how to get maximum exposure to my products. Both Books were amazing and I highly recommend them.
I have begun taking my products to nutrition stores locally, I wish I would have done this months ago. Anytime I was able to talk to the owner of a store they were always very impressed with the ingredients and look of my first product Simply Focus just a little wary about the price points. I have created a high quality product and will always stand by that, but the downside is my wholesale price which is a bit higher than others, I just hope consumers begin to realize the uniqueness and benefits my products offer.
Good signs, I am seeing a steady increase in anonymous sales. at first I was selling quite a bit but only to people in my circle which made it easy because I was able to let them try the products which in turn made it easy to make sales. I am still looking into how to solve this issue of getting anonymous customers past the tipping point to buy, one recent tactic I have started to use is giving away free product to gyms and retail stores for them to try and allow customers to test as well. Right now I am stuck between using my time to push the product locally vs seeking out bloggers and doing more of a online marketing approach. I am moving to Alaska in about a month so that alone has persuaded me to push the product locally and try to saturate this market while I am here. When I move I will still have a regional manager in Florida which will keep our shipping site here, but I will no longer be able to seek new local opportunities as aggressively.
Milestones, I have a meeting Monday at Max Fit in Fort Walton Beach after a few weeks of talk, allowing them to sample the product, and negotiating I believe we have come to a deal, soon you will be able to find Simply Focus and MGN SuperHero Fuel in 3 local Max Fit stores in FWB and the surrounding area! Also we have just made our first sale on E-bay which is also very exciting.
I will continue to read to learn and push forward, when I settle in Alaska I will look for a mentor or a Entrepreneur group aggressively, I know that is one thing I am missing that can and will impact my progress greatly.

Why Pain is Addicting
Anyone can run downhill few can run up it and get to their goal, any goal worth obtaining will be difficult if it were easy everyone would do it, the good thing is difficult painful tasks will actually become easier and easier the more you do them, not only will the tasks get easier for that particular goal your brain will actually start to re-wire itself making difficult unappealing tasks much easier and less stressful to do. Your brain is a squishy evolving circuit board, if you spend the majority of your time playing video games that will be the strongest wiring your brain will currently have, this explains why taking on a new skill is so difficult your brain is weak in that area until you do it over and over and evolve your circuits which will eventually make that new habit or skill seem second nature. Never become discouraged when trying something new, just know the harder you try the harder it will be to quit!

Making a Better Self!
Successful people have one thing in common they are always striving for self improvement. This is commonly misunderstood as never being content, but the truth is many of the very successful know how important it is to be content and happy with what you have and with those around you. They also have an understanding that what they have achieved is not what is important but rather the person they have become on the journey to those achievements. So if you have a desire in you to be great and are unsure of what to do next, pick up a book from someone or something that inspires you, I promise it will lead you to another book and another book your ideas will grow and you will eventually find your purpose, and a purpose in life is a powerful thing, and what it is all about.
Another tip I have heard time and time again, start building you discipline without it you will miss many opportunities. This can start in little actions, when you decided to go on a run and then attempt to talk yourself out of it Do it anyway Another example when your tired and don't feel like reading that book don't turn on the T.V. and zone out pick up that book! The best part about this is the more you commit to these disciplines the more you will hardwire your brain to perform these tasks and the easier it becomes, soon you will enjoy sitting back reading a book and learning just as much as you have vegging out in front of the T.V. in the past. Your brain can be an amazing asset but that all depends on how you choose to wire it!

Started with a Vision! Making Supplement Purchasing Simple!
I started this adventure 4 years ago and by starting this adventure I mean knowing I wanted to run my own business but clueless on what or how. So considering I did not know what to do I started reading every book I could that dealt with Entrepreneurs, Startups, Self Improvement, even some Social Psychology. I eventually got the Idea to create a Natural Nootropic supplement which is Simply Focus and the website Mental Giants Nutrition to sell it on. Simply Focus was created to scratch an itch I had acquired, I have a full time job, going to college full time for "Technical Management" and have two kids both very young and demanding much of my time when I was home, and I knew I wanted to start a business so I tried to read every chance I got. This would mentally exhaust me! So I began looking into brain nutrition, I believed with a strong and healthy brain it would cut the fatigue.
After researching all the products on the market, I started learning towards the natural nootropics and for a few reason, I was a little worried about putting chemicals in my body that particularly effected the brain, and second the research and understanding out their on the vitamins and herbs on the natural side was obviously greater. So I put togehter all the things that have shown to improve mental ability, energy, and focus. And Simply Focus was born!
Next step was selling and marketing, I sold over 60 bottles in the first week! which I thought was a pretty great feat, the problem was it was people I knew and were able to talk to and explain the product, I found if I were able to explain the product to anyone they were more then interested. Even better 90% of all the people trying it gave me awesome feedback, many bought multiple bottles on their second purchase, this was really exciting. But then sales began to slow down or I at least not getting anonymous sales online. This is a problem I still face today their is something, information or the presentation of that information that I am lacking on the website, I know this because I have been getting a decent amount of traffic but no purchases that are anomymous. So I did somewhat of a website overhaul, made the website more of a Nootropic theme which matches the company name and it worked out looking great. (shout out to my designer Megan who did an amazing job)
****Case and point in the middle of writing this post two little kids came over and demanded I pick them up for some play time.. haha
Ok trying to regain my thought patter. After the website theme change I added some nutrition information and a 30 day money back guarantee which was an easy decision after all the positive feedback i've been experiencing.
Then after reading Re-Work I got somewhat of a break through idea. Ive played sports all my life and been somewhat of a gym rat, with that I have been asked many times by friends and others what type of supplements they should use. After asking a few questions I was able to match them to a product that would work well for them. With that in mind it hit me, create an online supplement store that makes shopping for supplements SIMPLE. Most beginners and even advanced health enthusiast are overwhelmed and intimidated when walking into a sports nutrition store and it is understandable you walk in and there are so many options, everything with crazy made up terminologies and loud pictures most are hard to decipher. The same thing occurs on online websites, you have to skim through hundreds of products hoping that you can trust customer reviews on what to purchase, which is becoming harder everyday the way some sites prime reviews.
What I plan on doing about it. I am going to make purchasing supplements SIMPLE and EASY to do. Like I have many times in the past I will research products for people and only stock the highest quality and effective products for my customers, I will also take another step to ensure simplicity, I will cut down on the amount of products customers are subjected to. I will only carry up to 3 brands of any supplement category. For example in whey proteins I will carry a 1. high quality, 2. High Value, 3. Most Popular. I will also keep the category selection small and focus on the basics, i.e protein. multi-vitamins, pre-workout, ect.
I have a few other ideas that you will just have to wait and see on the website, I truly believe they will change the way supplements are bought online, and I'm very excited about it. I'll try to keep you updated on the blog.

Picking up Momentum!
So I no longer blog here everyday, but still believe it is beneficial to update blogger with more of a personal blog considering my website blog is more geared towards information for the public. I am beginning to feel momentum, some very good stuff has been happening lately I have recently made a deal with a local Nutritional Store Driven Sports Nutrition, this is a very successful store it has a wide selection of products and the way the owner has made the store layout is genius. He has a really good store front and I have a professionally built website, so I asked him if he wanted to partner up and I would sell his products online and we can split the profits, he agreed! This solved a major problem for me, I do not have a wide selection of inventory but want to become a well established online nutritional store, he has a solid local store but not a very well built website.
I have started hitting up Search Engine Optimization very hard, getting up 5 a.m to get a few quiet hours to research and follow the instructions. I also have a great idea for the website, I truly believe it will be a game changer on how customers buy products not only on nutritional online stores, but all retail stores on the Internet! I am working hard on this project and hope to have something tangible very soon.
One of the SEO tips was to create videos, I do get a lot of people who are impressed when they see my product even after they have already reviewed it online, I guess they do realize how big the bottle is, nice the product looks, and how much they actually get in the product. So I made this video I was on the fence about it, at first I wanted to plan the video out and create a script, but I thought I just need to create it and get it out there or I never will.
Above you can see the new shirts we created, trying to get brand name awareness out and t-shirts seemed like a great idea especially for a nutritional store, this way people will see others hopefully at the gym and ask about it. I plan on using the shirt as a marketing tool in other ways as well, giveaways, contest, incentives to buy product in bulk. I thought the money spent here would be better then an add on the radio or etc.
Misc, I'm reading Re-Work right now enjoying it a lot, just got done with Tipping Point <- that book gave me a lot of hope and insight on how something can go from nothing to a viral epidemic with the right people contacted or supporting your product.
Having a Blast, and I am going to keep at it until i'm at the top!
Hope to see you there!

Last day of school... for a while.
Finished a final paper for ethics, 2 assignments in my computer class and the final for computer class as well today. I will not be taking any more classes until I get to Alaska in November.
After the 5 hours of school work was done we took the kids to the park, then stopped by the store on the way home to grab ingredients for dinner, after a couple kids got their baths the day was almost over.
nothing to productive today, I do have the next week off, I plan on creating an e-mail that I can send out to store fronts in the local area and create that e-mai roster I keep talking about. After I look up some promising leads I plan to make a few visits to stores.
I am going to a town about 45 minutes away tomorrow, I know a few vitamin stores I am going to stop by I will bring some product to drop off to them.
schools out forever! ok maybe just a few months.

Sleep is good
This is the second time I've been laying in bed and thinking.... "Dang I forgot to do my blog again, time to get up"
I think I have almost completely fought off whatever bug me and my family have been passing around, that is a good thing,
Home
Today was a hectic day I got off work last night at 1030 made it to bed at midnight and had to be in the following morning at 0730, worked all day, then came home and played with the kids and tried to keep the peace because both the kids are still a little fussy from whatever bug we have had.
Work
Busy busy busy, tomorrow a is a normal day, going to go workout in the morning and use that time as a planning session for the next big move.
Business
Taking next week off, going to take tomorrow to really think about the best way to spend my time off and further the business.

Today was a bit harder then most, everyone in the house is a little sick, not knocked down to the ground sick but just tired and cranky. This is no fun with a 1 and a 3 year old in the house.

Lazy Sunday
Not a lot of excitement today, (Besides in the church this morning, we had an awesome service). After church I completed the last of this weeks homework and actually fell asleep after three espresso shots! I think all my activities and lack of sleep may have caught up with me. Then we went to a friends house to have a small group and read the Bible.
No real movement on business stuff today, i'm going to relax and enjoy the family for the remainder of the day.
Hope everyone had a great Sunday!

MUD RUN!!!!
I'm extremely tired so try not to judge this post to harshly.
We had an awesome day at the Emerald Coast Mud Run Today, I'm pretty wore I got off work late last night and had to get up 0430 to pack up drive and setup at the event, we had a lot of traffic come through many people were very interested in our product and excited about what it can do for them as well as the ingredients in the product, this was definitely the demographic we are after.
I think we gave out anywhere from 60-75 free samples that included brochures and business cards. I would say the event was a huge success. We also ran the event at 230 P.M and my wife watched the booth during, 3.6 miles with I think 18 obstacles. We had a blast but I am extremely tired just got a project done for my computer college class I have one more paper to write after church tomorrow then I may think about relaxing the remainder of the weekend.... =)
Awesome DAY! excited to see how our website traffic will look in the next week. Also I have been reading the book "Tipping Point" I hope one of the people who took samples will be a connector, or a Maven and get our product off the ground!! =)

May 13 (Shut up body time to run)
Great news, I was told we are going to be able to setup a both at the Emerald Coast Mud Run and at a discounted price, we are only going to pay $250 dollars which is half the normal fee, this is fine with me as I really like the charity the Mud Run is supporting, which is run by Heart of the Bride and is a charity for orphans, so considering the $250 is going to a great cause and last year this event had over 11 thousand people come though it I think we will get a lot of good exposure and hopefully maybe make some good contacts among the vendors while we are there.

Seems like everyone in the house is getting sick =(, I felt a little sick today but I think it is being mitigated by all the health smoothies I have been drinking lately, we recently got a Ninja Ultima and my dark green vegetable intake has increased dramatically as well as other good foods such as flack seed and other fruits and vegetables. Anyway I felt like I may be getting a little sick and did not want to go on my jog, which only meant now I had to go on this jog....... I needed to make myself do this for discipline reasons, and create a better perspective for future challenges. I ended up running 4 miles twisted my angle pretty hard on the trail run halfway through but was able to finish it out and felt better after the run. Ankle is a little sore but I will survive.
Work
Nothing spectacular, I work nights which is unfortunate because I can setup the booth Friday night so I don't have to set it up so early this Saturday, but I may be working and not able to take advantage of that.
Business
- Created Fliers that look good, got a good plan for this Saturday and how to present my product to potential customer, but I also want to talk to other vendors and start networking.
Really happy the booth worked out excited for Saturday to come.
- Web designer e-mailed today and will start the website renovations soon =)

May 12 2015 (Game Plan)
The more I study successful people the more patterns I see, one of which is "Never start a day without ending that day". So first thing in the morning I will either go on a jog if I'm short on time, or to the gym and while working out or running I will plan at least 3 objectives to complete that day to claim a successful day.
Today.
Home
No house showings today, just had to take a dog to the vet still made it to the gym and had a good workout. I need to finish a few things in the house but nothing on a deadline.
Work
Pretty busy, but got off a little early thinking about not staying up tonight for "Personal Growth" learning but catching up on a little sleep, last night was rough I may have gotten 3 hours of sleep, not feeling to bad right now, but I am thinking I may catch up on sleep and if I wake up early 5 a.m I will study another language or play the piano.
Business
Sad to say nothing significant was done today for the business the website has not been updated, but I cannot complain to much because my designer is doing it for free. No word back on the Mud Run booth, I plan on contacting Andrew Thursday to see what is going on, I am guessing since we did not meet our quota for getting people to sign up they do not want to give us a discounted booth. I am hoping by Thursday they will know how many vendors they have and if spots are open will allow us to use one.
Misc
I need to accomplish at least 2 things a day for the business. I'm trying to evaluate myself to see if I am giving enough effort, I feel extremely busy in other parts of life, but I"m sure others have persevered through much worse. Thinking it is time to plan better and suck it up.

- Today me and my wife had to get the house clean and ready to show for potential buyers, that is easier said then done with a 1 and 3 year old in the house. we managed to get it in good shape but I do not know how many times a week we could handle that task.
Business
- I did contact the admin about setting up a booth at the Mud Run, I am hoping when I get out of work tonight I will have a text message saying we are cleared to setup a booth at a discount rate, fingers crossed.
- The website should be updated anytime now with a new theme, and added information to get potential clients past the tipping point to make a purchase!
School
- two more weeks in this semester, after this I will be taking a semester or two off to get ready for the move and do some work mandated education courses.
- This semester has not been to bad, hate taking next semester off but I don't think I have to many options.
Misc
- Decided to learn a language in my (spare time) haha well I sometimes get home at 10 and stay up until midnight trying to do something productive, so I will use that quite time to 1. Learn Latin and Spanish, 2. learn to play the piano.
I like this new format for my blogs and think I will continue the rest like this. until I find a better one that is.
Cheers,
Tom McConnell

May 9 2015 (Maintain The Chain)
Trying to maintain the chain and add a entry daily. It is Saturday and the first one that I was buckled down with a ton of house remodeling work so we took the girls to the Zoo, we had a lot of fun but them being only 1 and 3 years old we only stayed a few hours. Now we are about to run a few errands and I need to get some homework done.
I'm at somewhat of a standstill on my business tasks, waiting on the website updates to come in, and waiting on word back from Heart of The Bride about the booth setup. I could put together a few paragraphs to add to the webpage including what the benefits of each supplement are. I am also trying to find the balance between working to hard and taking some time off without feeling lazy. Basically my current priorities are kids and family, business, school work... with real work in their somewhere... not saying I have a sound priority list right now but it is working for now.

May 8
I have begun an overhaul on my website www.mentalgiantsnutrition.com I noticed I have been getting quite a bit of traffic but no anonymous purchases. I am updating it with more of a Nootropics theme and adding some information that explains what the vitamins do and what is in each pill.
Work was pretty rough today, usually I will get a few minutes to read my books in-between processes, but today we spent the whole time chasing our tails with no downtime and making little headway. Pretty beat right now, but still need to do some of my homework for college because I have not touched any of it this week and would like to get at least a few assignments done.
Also been doing a lot of remodeling we have recently put our house up for sale so I tore out all the carpet put in wood floors, and painted all the walls. This was not the easiest for my kids all they new was Dad was home but they couldn't play with him, so we are taking them to the zoo tomorrow as bit of a celebration that for the most part everything is done with the house.
Goals / To Do List

- Going to get 2 homework assignments done before bed.
- Need to contact Heart of the Bride about setting up a booth and how much it will cost.
- Decidec to Learn Latin, need to practice at least 30 minutes a day.
- Blog Everyday as a means to keep record of my progress / monitor my thoughts and goals.

Day of Commitment
I need to start committing to certain activities daily no matter what to build up my commitment muscles. I decided this blog will be among one of those activities, so if you start reading these try not to judge to hard because I will be doing this daily as a recount of what I have done that day or want to do.
This will provide me with a few benefits, first it will play a role as the voice on my shoulder ensuring I attempt to be productive daily, but more importantly it will allow me to look back at the thoughts and ideas I had in the past and grow from that knowledge and as a aid to recount what worked and what did not.
Todays Goals.

Todays Goals.
- Read 4 Chapters in Dale Carnages book "How to win friends, and influence people"
- Work on Website. (Theme, add Nutritional information, add free 30 day money back guarantee".
- Finish at least 50% of this weeks homework.
- Go on a 30 minute jog.
Todays Results
- Sent an e-mail to website designer requesting changes, working on information explaining the benefits Simply Focus has for the Natural, Energy, Focus aspects of the product. I think the 30 day money back guarantee will hopefully get potential customers over the tipping point to purchase the product. <----I should have done this along time ago because everyone who has tried the product so far has liked it a lot.
- Run complete 33 min in FL at noon, good times.
- 3 chapters in on How to win Friends and Influence people.

Just finished the First Race!
Endurance Training
So I am currently to the point in this experience where I am up and running, I have had a product in hand for a little more then a week and I have all my selling platforms online including Amazon, E-bay, and My Website. It took a great deal of effort to get to this point and I feel like I just finished a half marathon to be told the next race is just beginning. I have sold about 50 Jars of my product Simply Focus in about a week out of 288 in the first batch, each one of these sales are individuals I know personally some more then others, and 90% of the people who Beta tested the product for me bought the product, that was actually the first big good sign, the Beta testers were asking me quite often when the product was going to be in.
I am having really good results from the customers who have bought my product so far, about a 90% rate of them being really happy with the product, I know a lot of them are honest and would not sugar coat their analysis but they are people I know so I really want to get some anonymous feedback on the product with no bias involved.
I have been hitting this project very hard lately and feeling a little beat down, but received a big boost of energy today after receiving a message regarding the product performance. It came from My wife's Sister in-law, she was very exited because she had bought this product for her son who suffers from ADHD. The message stated how exited she was because for the first time her son showed signs of regression of his ADHD diagnosis. She explained how he has been through multiple prescriptions but nothing had worked, but the vitamin pack seems to be having an effect on him. I know vitamins react differently on every user so I was happy he was receiving them well, this brought a big smile to my face and a lot of hope, because this product was created to increase focus and attention spans while also elevating mood and reducing anxiety. I am really hoping these effects will be lasting, and interested how he does after taking the supplement steadily, as a big benefit of the product is the long term effects from the brain nutritional side of the product.
My next post will contain some of the information about how I got to this point with product in hand, in case anyone is interested in exactly how I went through creating a company, logo, design, product and so on.
Small progress everyday is what I'm after.
Cheers,
Tom McConnell

Entrepreneur Experiment - Background
I thought it would be helpful to begin this experiment with a bit of background information about myself, this will allow for a base line, as well as provide you with some of the variables in my life that I am dealing with while attempting to create a successful business.
My Current Situation
I am a 29 soon to be 30 year old male, I have two young children there ages are one and three, currently working a full time job as a programmer while also going to school full time for a degree in Technical Management.
My Why
This is a very important question for me.... My WHY, why do I want to be a successful entrepreneur, what is it going to provide me? When it comes down to it I have a two answers, first my family they are the most important to me and above all my priority, with this said I am trying to learn how I can dedicate the time and effort needed to become successful while ensuring they are not neglected along the way. The goal is to create enough wealth so that my family can really enjoy life and not have to stress financially I don't care to much about being rich just wealthy enough so that we can survive comfortably in the future with a minimal part of our day dedicated to work.
The second reason why I decided to start this journey my attraction to leadership, I have always felt drawn to positions of leadership from a young age, and with this attraction over the last 5 years I have been feeding my brain many of the theories and practices put into place by successful people and companies to achieve great things, this is something I am passionate about as I would like to be put into a position that I can lead and be a positive part of others lives.
Through out this blog I intend to post every other day, some post may be extremely boring but I want to show impovement with each post, and at least a few action items completed towards the end goal. Like I said in my description try not to be to critical as this is a work in progress and the first time I've wrote a blog honestly, but I would love to hear comments especially ones that offer advice because I know there is no way for my to become successful alone, but only by the help and advice of many others.
So if you start reading these posts I hope it becomes a fun and energetic story for you, and one that leads to a great success!
Enjoy
Tom McConnell
